Please be advised that due to anticipated incoming weather and as per Regulation 239/02 of the Municipal Act, 2001 (as amended), Montague Township has declared a significant weather event on Sunday, December 28th, effective at approximately 7:00pm.
Environment Canada has issued an Orange Warning - Freezing Rain and a Special Weather Statement relating to strong wind gusts for our area, expected to begin Sunday evening into Monday. This storm could bring ice accretion and build-up of 15 to 20 mm on some surfaces, and strong wind gusts of up to 70 km/h.Non-essential travel should be avoided, as roadways will become icy and slippery, potentially even hazardous and some routes impassable. Prolonged utility outages are likely as well.
This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for Montague Township to meet their winter maintenance objectives until the municipality declares the significant weather event has ended. It may take longer than usual to bring the condition of the roads back to a state of repair. The Township will post when the municipality has declared the event has ended.
Downed trees and powerlines are very likely during this storm. STAY AWAY from downed lines, and contact the appropriate authority to have them cleared. Never assume either are safe to approach!
