Update from Council – September 1st, 2020
Bag tags use will resume October 31st, 2020, until then Residents will not be required to place garbage tags on all their garbage bags. Residents are limited to three (3) bags of household waste. Tags are needed for any bag number above three (3).
Montague runs a curbside collection program through Glenview Iron and Metal (GIM) for garbage pickup and Emterra Group for recycling pickup. Recycle pickup dates are on the same day as regular garbage pickup, and there are no interruptions during the year except when Canada Day, Christmas and New Year's days falls on your regular pickup day. Make sure you put your garbage and recycling at the curbside by 7:00 am on the scheduled day of collection. Only household garbage will be collected on pickup days.

The Township of Montague allocates 90 free bag tags to each address per year. Residents may pick up their garbage bag tags at any time throughout the year. Additional tags may be purchased from the Township Office during regular office hours for $1 per tag (Tags are sold in batches of 15 tags for $15.00). Unused tags can be used in the following year.
How often is garbage collected?
- Garbage is collected once a week.
- Recyclables are picked up once a week on the same day as regular garbage pickup.
- Only non-recyclable items should be placed in the garbage.
- Curbside collection is for bagged household garbage, blue box recycling only. No large item pick up, no leaf & yard waste.

Dual stream Recycling is a system where recyclable materials are separated into two streams - Containers and Fibres. Your recyclables - must be separated and placed into, two separate recycling boxes. Containers (Plastics) belong in a Yellow box and Fibre (Paper) belong in a blue box. Please follow the acceptable item’s guidelines to know what material to put in which box.
Recycling is to be placed roadside by 7 a.m.

Drop-off days take place once every spring and fall at the Public Works Garage, 6547 Roger Stevens Dr. from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Items that can be dropped off include:
- white metals,
- air conditioners
- scrap metal, etc.
Items NOT accepted include:
- hazardous waste,
- propane tanks
- animal or commercial waste.
- Fridges, freezers and air conditioners must have a tag indicating freon has been emptied. Fridges, freezers, air conditioners WITH FREON - a $50.00 cash charge.
- Trash tags or equivalent monetary value is required for the above items as per By-law 2258-95.
- During Large Item Drop-off Day ONLY, residents are able to bring brush, less than 2 inches in diameter, to the Township complex to be chipped.
COVID-19 - Update
The Hazardous Waste Depot is open on Saturdays beginning August 1st, 2020 to September 19th, 2020 (subject to change) from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm (noon) located at 128 Patterson Crescent (Town of Carleton Place). Montague residents will be required to show proof of address.
